Our 5 days gorilla trek Mgahinga and Nyiragongo hike is the most awesome adventure that takes you through the Virunga conservation area which is a protected area formed/established to protect Mountain gorillas from poachers in the world. The amazing journey goes through the three countries of Uganda, Congo and Rwanda a place commonly known as land of a thousand hills.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park
Have breakfast and drive to Mgahinga gorilla national park and enjoy the beautiful scenic view of the beautiful terrain of western of the country: with stopovers at the equator in Masaka for water experience and Mbarara town for lunch at Igongo cultural centre. Continue with your drive up to Kisoro arrive in time for dinner and overnight at your lodge/Hotel.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking adventure
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters in Nyakagezi for a briefing about the endangered mountain gorillas from the park warden. Along with your trekking gear, drinking water and packed lunch, the driver will drop you off at the starting point to trek the gorillas together with the ranger guides.
This activity may take between 1-8 hours searching for the gorillas depending on their movement. However meeting them is so interesting and you will spend maximally 1 hour with them as you take time studying them and taking pictures and videos. Have dinner and overnight at the lodge.
Day3: Transfer to Gisenyi from Kisoro
After an early morning breakfast, drive to Gisenyi town in the Democratic Republic of Congo from Kisoro, via Cyanika border. Gisenyi town is located at the shores of Lake Kivu which is shared by DRC and Rwanda. With a long drive, retire at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Nyiragongo hike
Early morning breakfast will head out for adventure. Where you will cross the border and then head to the Virunga National Park at the Kibati Ranger post where you will be briefed on the dos and don’ts. Meals, sticks and rain gear will be provided to you but you can as well carry your own. Porters will also be available for those who would like help in carrying their luggage.
While at the top, get to enjoy the breath taking view of the lava and the active volcano. After a long enjoyable experience retire at the hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Note: The hike takes between 7-8 hours depending on the speed/movement of the hikers.
Day 5: Descend and Depart from Kigali
After breakfast descend from the mountain down to Goma town and transfer to Kigali international airport and catch your flight back home.
